We've all been there - when a sense of uncertainty sneaks its way into the creative space in our minds. I'm here to tell you although we are all there at times, there's always a light of inspiration awaiting us on the other side.
Silk is a fabric that evokes the senses and is rich in history. It's luxurious and has been used for centuries to create beautiful clothing and adornments. Ever since I was a little girl, silk has always intrigued me. I remember my mom showing me silk scarves from Japan which had belonged to my grandparents. The stories told through these silks were incredible. So when I stumbled across an authentic African Silk shop, I was beyond excited to explore! Little did I know that I would be in for a cultural experience I'd remember forever.
It's not every day that you have the chance to re-experience your wedding day. With the support of our South African friends and family, Piet and I were blessed with the chance to renew our vows in setting filled with all the natural beauty South Africa can offer.
It may sound like a silly question, but yesterday while driving through the fields of the Limpopo area of South Africa I was immediately transported back to summers on the farm in North Dakota. I believe this crazy-real nostalgic feeling hit me because when I was a little girl my Mom and I would often drive the bumpy dirt roads to bring my Dad his lunch in the field. Driving the same dirt roads in South Africa brought me back to those glorious summer days from my childhood.
This has been an incredible year, full of growth, full of falling down and picking ourselves back up. We've had the pleasure of meeting and working with many incredible people, (yes, you my amazing friend!) We truly owe everything to the people who've believed in us in this crazy journey of Dak & Collaboratives.
