Like most of the midwest right now, we are experience what we like to call "swinter." Swinter is when it's suppose to be spring or summer, and instead we're getting winter-like weather conditions. A lot of us struggle with how to dress during transitional weather such as this. Here are a few tips and tricks on how to dress as winter becomes spring.
Your Hot Then Your Cold
I find myself humming the Katy Perry tune to mother nature more often than not these days. I'm ready for spring, but recently the weather has said otherwise. This spring has been more-than-average chilly...even for North Dakota weather. For example, I've already made more than one attempt to pack up my winter boots for the season, just in time for a surprise spring blizzard to roll through.
Weather like this can be hard to wrap your mind around in a lot of ways, especially when it comes to finding something to wear, like the times when we wake up with sunshine, and by noon it's snowing.
Nicole's Tip: My advice is start adding bright colors to your wardrobe. Bright blue, orange, yellow or red are perfect add ons to add a little spring in your step.
Lightly Layer Up
Pairing your spring and summer pieces with some cozy pieces is key to transition from winter to spring. Mixing light, airy fabrics with fuzzy jackets or leather can look really chic.
A couple of my favorite pairings would be paring soft tones such as blush, stone blue or sage green with a bold leather moto jacket and a chunky scarf. Also add some contrasting black tights and booties for an edgy look. As the day warms up or cools down, you can easily add or remove layers to this look.
Another paring I love is paring a trending a floral spring midi skirt with a mock neck lightweight sweater. You can throw on a chunky sweater for chillier days, and layer down as weather warms up. Lace-up booties and a hat create a boho-chic look.

Nicole's Style Tip: Other fun pieces to get into your closet to help with the “swinter”blues are sneakers! Channel your inner child and go purchase a new pair of shoes!! You can wear these shoes with skirts, find some fun anklet socks or even sport them with another spring must have, the belted trousers.

Nicole's Style Tip: If all else fails, invest in a new fragrance. Something fresh and invigorating. My favs are Jo Malone, Mon Paris by YSL and Caroline Herrera Good Girl.
